Offshore Solar Re-Cycle

Updated: Jul 3, 2021

This is what reinvention of evolution looks like. Where an energy source can be extracted off of the outer structural shape of another. It's interesting times and we need to reinvent our designs and energy ideas in order to solve our current and future energy demands.

Combined Efficiencies

This solution allows for solar energy to be collected off the structure of a wind generator and its upper mechanics outer shell adding to the energy generated. The second solar solution is built on a barge that is 3d printed and manufactured from purely recycled and repurposed materials. I found it fascinating to see similar ideas or designs out there of some ideas but not in the manner in which this design approaches sustainability and social benefit all while reducing waste by-products and generating green energy.

An intriguing pattern appears below the blades of the wind turbine. That´s right the entire post is wrapped with modular solar panels. The same P.V. wrap and structure are placed on top of the generator and its´ side panels as well; this can be seen below.

Recycling´s Potential

The sollar arrays are modular and the barge´s structure is made from plastic repurposed into a platform to generate our future´s clean energy. This is done in the following steps:

  1. Pay for plastic bottles to be recycled with lids.

  2. Melt waste and other plastics into 3d printable material

  3. Print structure for barge and solar panels from recycled material

This greatly reduces the cost of materials but more importantly, it reduces the amount of waste plastic in our society by roughly 40 kg per 36.0 KW/hr installation. The wind turbine´s footing is made up of 65% plastic and smelting slag including 10% construction waste converted into aggregate-sized pieces. Each platform reduces the amount of sand and aggregate stone required by over 65% thereby making it more sustainable to construct and scale up.

I chose this project because I have always felt a passion inside to work with sustainable designs and I always try to use sustainable practices to reduce waste and reuse. So this falls straight into that ethos of improving and looking for more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions. This is will be a part of our #futureenergysolutions, where we have to continue to innovate to solve our way out of our current global energy predicament. This was an interesting new approach I was looking to try and I´m glad the result turned out so great. Here´s a snippet of the code below.
